Last night I spent the evening performing magic at the Slough Chamber of Commerce Awards ceremony at the Copthorne Hotel. With over 200 guests this was a lavish event hosted by a stunningly realistic "David Brent and Gareth from The Office" lookalike duo. The look, voices, mannerisms and humour were all perfectly matched to the originals and really went down well with the guests. A charity auction raised large sums for good causes and the awards themselves went to a number of important and innovative local companies.
I particularly enjoyed doing some magic and mind-reading for The Compleat Angler (a fine dining hotel based in Marlow - http://www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/compleatangler/), Saucy Horse (a website video production and social media company - www.saucyhorse.co.uk) and Wilson & Scott (a company who paint the lines on our roads and have done so for over 50 years - www.wilsonandscott.co.uk). It was a great night out and lots of fun - here are some pics of the event...

Yesterday I spent the afternoon at Brooklands. It's an amazing place built around the old banked racing track. Recent additions to the complex are the incredible Mercede-Benz World building (completely free to visit and well worth an hour or two of anyone's time) and the superb Brooklands Hotel. This hotel is having its first ever wedding fair on 8th May and I went along to a meeting to help organise things and liase with other exhibitors. It should be a great event - more information nearer the time. I also discussed corporate events and being the "recommended supplier" magician for the hotel which is an exciting prospect for the future. If you're in the area then a visit to Brooklands is a great day out - highly recommended!
On Saturday I performed magic at a birthday party in Twickenham, right in the shadow on the rugby stadium. Then on Sunday I was exhibiting at another wedding fair and met many excited brides-to-be, some of whom have decided that a bit of magic is the perfect thing to add to their big day - thanks! Later this week I will be doing close-up magic round the tables at the Slough Chamber of Commerce awards and in the near future will be performing for the Lord Mayor of Wokingham at a charity night in the Town Hall. It's nice to keep busy!
Derren is probably the most famous magician working in the UK right now. His TV shows are always worth checking out but he is really at his best in the live environment. His 2011 theatre tour has just kicked off with shows in Brighton and Woking before heading across the whole of the country. I went along to a show yesterday and found it very entertaining - definitely worth seeing if you can get a ticket. On this tour Derren is mixing traditional magic, hypnosis, demonstrations of mind-reading and even a little "Russian Roulette" (but nothing like his TV special from a few years back, this one is played for laughs).
A great night out and you also get to meet the rather spooky "Svengali" himself, but I'm not going to give away the secrets, you'll have to go along to a show to find out more... |
