Mike Stoner is a professional magician and member of The Magic Circle who can perform amazing feats of mind reading (sometimes known as "mentalism"). This is very different to traditional magic as there are usually no props involved, just the power of the mind! This form of entertainment has been around for over 100 years, but has recently been popularised by Derren Brown thanks to his many TV and theatre shows. What will my guests experience if I hire Mike?
Take a small object and hide it in one of your hands. Mike will be able to tell which hand it is in. But that's only a 50/50 chance so choose a number from a dice. Mike will tell you the number you are thinking of. A 1 in 6 chance, so it could be a lucky guess. Now think of a playing card. 52 to choose from. Mike will pick out the one card that you thought of. So now think of a colour. There are many different colours that you might go for. Mike will know the colour that is in your mind. Now secretly draw something fairly simple - it could be a house, flower, car, sun or any of hundreds of different things - Mike will also draw something and when you compare drawings they are identical! So now let's make it a lot harder. Take a book or magazine - any one you like. Open it at any page and choose any word - thousands of possibilities. Say the word to yourself over and over again inside your head. Mike will tell you the very word you are thinking. Now let's make it REALLY difficult. Secretly write down 6 numbers between 1 and 49, just as if you are doing the National Lottery. There's no way that he could know those numbers - that would be odds of 14 million to one. Can it be done? You'll have to hire Mike to find out!
