On Saturday I drove to Uxbridge Golf Course to entertain at a party being held for Breakspear Parents Association. As I arrived it was obvious that this would be a classy evening with everyone dress to the nines, despite wearing some of my smartest clothes I still felt like the scruffiest person there! I had a quick chat to some of the other entertainers, including the DJ and a "Blues Brothers" tribute act, and then it was on with the magic.
Originally there were meant to be two magicians at the event but, due to motorway problems, there was only me and, as a result I was kept very busy for the night! The magic got great reactions and I had a lovely evening, receiving many kind comments and enthusiastic feedback. The party really went with a swing and it was a pleasure to entertain everybody. Many thanks to Kate for organising everything.

A few days ago I was invited to entertain at a surprise birthday party for Betty and lots of her family and friends. I won't mention which birthday it was, but it was a big one!
The venue was the Pavilion Room in the Sir Christopher Wren's House Hotel in the middle of Windsor, just by the bridge across to Eton. This is a fabulous venue and I've performed at weddings and wedding fairs here several times before, it's one of my real favourites. I had been booked as a special surprise for Betty and luckily she really enjoyed the magic. I worked my way round the guests and rounded things off with a lottery number prediction. People often ask why I can't use my magical and mind-reading skills to win the lottery. The problem is that the lottery numbers are chosen by a machine and you can't mind-read one of those! However if you ask a person to think of six numbers between 1 and 49 then it's much easier as a quick demonstration proved, to general amazement. Thanks to everyone who was at the party for giving me such a great reception and special congratulations to Betty! Yesterday I spent the day at the O2 arena for the ATP Tennis World Tour Finals. It was a fantastic day and a real pleasure to see some of the big names from the world of tennis warming up, signing autographs and playing world class matches. I found the time to watch Berdych and Tipsarevic in a three set thriller and was delighted to meet Greg Rusedski - what a great guy!
Yesterday I spent the evening in Tyler's Green near High Wycombe entertaining at Brenda's 60th birthday party. She had hired the village hall and the place was full of friends, family and workmates. Alongside a disco and fantastic jazz/pop duo she had also booked me to add a touch of magic to proceedings. I spent a couple of happy hours mingling with the guests doing card tricks, mind-reading and a few new magical routines that seemed to go down very well ("Wow - that's totally impossible, how did you DO that?!?"). It was a great evening, happy birthday Brenda!
On Saturday I did some magic at Old Orleans in Reading and then drove off to Trunkwell to entertain at the wedding of Luke and Michelle. Trunkwell is a gem of a place hidden away just South of Reading and without a good map or satnav you would probably never find it! For this wedding they had pulled out all of the stops - the wedding car wasn't just a RollsRoyce it was a very flash Overfinch Range Rover (which, if you know your cars, is something rather special) and had a great personalised number plate. The wedding guests were dressed to the nines and I had a great time performing close-up magic and mind-reading for everyone. There were also a handful of youngsters there who enjoyed some balloon creations - teddy bears, elephants, puppydogs, hats, swords and more. As the guests sat down for the wedding breakfast there were several excellent speeches with some heartfelt comments from family and suitably amusing stories from the best man. A great wedding reception and who would have thought the weather could be so pleasant and mild in mid-November?! Congratulations to Luke and Michelle - all the best for your future together.
On Sunday I drove off to Biggleswade to perform magic at a party being held for staff of Iceland. It was being held to wrap up a work conference and had a bit of an early Christmas Party feel, hats and all! I was due to start at 9pm so, by that time, the party was in full swing and these people certainly knew how to party! When performing in a restaurant or at a wedding you generally know what to expect, but this was very different with a few of the guests having had rather a lot to drink and a LOUD disco pumping away in the background. I spent a lot of time shouting to be heard ("I SAID PICK A CARD ANY CARD") but it was a great atmosphere and everyone was up for a good time. The magic went down a storm and even the more "lively" guests were pleased to have their minds read and to be presented with various exotic balloon creations. Thanks very much to Katrina for inviting me to entertain at such a great night and I hope to see the Iceland guys and gals again soon.
Yesterday I spent a couple of hours entertaining at a corporate party for senior staff at BP Shipping. The event was being held in the luxurious Aviator hotel in Farnborough and the picture on the left below gives you an idea of the weird and wonderful layout of the place. I'd been asked to keep people laughing, relaxed and, most importantly, make sure that they didn't talk about work - it was a party after all! We had lots of fun mixing up different magical routines and it was a real challenge wowing some of the more analytical and sceptical guests, but everyone was won over before too long. It was a great night - special thanks to Despina for helping organise everything and being such a pleasure to work with.
On Friday I spent the day at the SKY studios recording a TV show. This will be broadcast in a few weeks. It was a great day, but I've been sworn to secrecy so can't say anything about the show itself or the recording process until after it's been broadcast. Watch this space!
On Monday I headed up to London to perform magic at a special corporate event. It was the launch of esure broker and Sheila's Wheels broker to the press and was being held in the amazing Haymarket Hotel in Central London. I could tell the hotel was something special as Hollywood actress Neve Campbell was sitting in the lobby!
In between the speeches by esure senior management I mingled with the guests doing a mix of magic and mind-reading. The theme for the night was "change and transformation" so alongside the close-up magic I performed a couple of magical stage routines - changing a silk handkerchief into a magic wand and changing a glass of water into an indoor snowstorm. As it was Halloween I had dressed up in a suitable fashion as a cross between Count Dracula and Heath Ledger's Joker featuring a large swishing cloak and plenty of facepaint. It was very strange to be chatting to people from the Daily Mail and Daily Express while dressed like this! The whole evening was great fun and shows that a bit of magic really adds something special to any corporate event. If you want to give your guests something extra at your next event then get in touch. |
