Another busy weekend doing magic at three weddings across Berkshire. First Chloe and Ian in Yateley, then Sheng and Jing in Maidenhead and then Roger and Sharon in my hometown of Wokingham. Lots of fun and you can see pictures from the weddings below...
At this time of year with so many performances going on I'm getting through playing cards, balloons, elastic bands, cutlery and more at a huge rate of knots. Luckily I've got a cupboard full of props including a huge number of cards - most houses have one old pack of somewhat battered playing cards tucked away in a drawer somewhere, but I've got literally hundreds of them piled several feet high ready for use! With the hot weather we have had recently I get through one or two packs each day - during the magic the poor old cards get written on, torn up, folded, lost, handed out, covered in beer, dropped on the floor, stuck to the ceiling, hidden in various places and just battered by continual use. Each wedding needs it's own fresh pack of pristine new cards. In fact if I ask someone to shuffle them this can cause a problem as brand new cards are so smooth and slippery that people can end up dropped them all over the place! The inevitable "52 card pick-up"!

This weekend I've performed magic at four different parties and weddings. The first was at the National Trust's Basildon Park - a fascinating building that is well worth a visit. However on this particular day you couldn't visit much of it as part had been set aside for David and Ruth's wedding and most of the rest was being used to film the new series of Downton Abbey! I spent the afternoon entertaining people during the wedding reception and dodging the rain showers. The photographer wanted to get shots of everyone in front of the house, but had to time it carefully to keep everyone dry!
I then drove over to New Malden for Julia's party and, as a contrast to being in a stately home, this was being held in her back garden. Luckily the weather was good and everyone was in the mood for some fun. I even had a little friendly competition with an amateur magician who was there, although after he'd said "How did you do THAT?" a few times he decided to leave the magic to me from then on. The next wedding was at the Crown Hotel in Winchester. I arrived early, had a quick coffee and then headed into Roy and Claudine's wedding reception. There was a great mixture of guests and one particular table that Roy warned me "could be a bit of a handful". I headed over to them, did a bit of magic and was then asked if I knew any hypnosis. I asked why and a lady called Jackie said that she had been hypnotised by Paul McKenna. Everyone else was a bit sceptical about this so I showed them how you can use words and the power of suggestion to make people do unexpected things. Jackie was a great subject and everyone else was amazed! Later in the weekend I headed to Beckenham to do magic at Kelly and Lee's wedding reception. There was a great party atmosphere and everyone was ready to have a good time. Alongside the magic there was some great food and drink, a DJ, a bouncy castle and plenty of karaoke! Kelly herself has an amazing voice and seeing her sing note perfect numbers in her wedding dress was something very special. There were a number of youngsters at this reception so I called on my balloon modelling skills to keep them amused. All-in-all an excellent afternoon of fun, laughter and magic. If you are planning a wedding reception and would like to add something amazing to entertain your guests then get in touch - I'm currently taking bookings for 2013, 2014 and 2015. On Friday I was back at my regular slot during magic for passengers at Heathrow airport.
In amongst the people flying home for the weekend and flying off on holiday there were a few special surprises, which you can see in the pictures below. As part of the Doctor Who 50th anniversary celebrations there was a TARDIS in the terminal! I met a group of enthusiastic Star Trek fans, heading off to the Alps, the very lovely Wendy Turner Webster (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wendy_Turner_Webster) - host of TV's "Pet Rescue" - spent a few minutes chatting about guitars with Willie Adler from US heavy metal group "Lamb of God" (http://www.lamb-of-god.com/) and also did some magic for a mysterious glamorous woman (under the watchful eye of her two bouncers/protectors). She looked "famous" but I couldn't work out who she was until one of the bouncers told me that she is apparently "Sweden's top TV star" (but he wouldn't tell me her name or let me take a photo!). All-in-all a lot of fun and I'll be back doing magic again at Heathrow T5 in a short while. If you're flying out then look out for me, I'll be wearing the purple top hat so should be easy to spot! |
