I've just been called by ITV and will be going to their London studios on Monday to record an item for the Alan Titchmarsh show - exciting stuff, more details soon!

Last night I headed into London to do some magic at a special corporate event for Wriglesworth PR Consultancy (http://www.wriglesworth.com/). I performed at their Christmas party in The Savoy a few weeks ago and was asked back to entertain the guests at their 15 year celebration, being held at the Royal Society of Chemistry right next to the Royal Academy in Piccadilly. It's an amazing venue and it was a real pleasure to be doing magic in such historic surroundings. I mingled with the guests doing magic and mind-reading, taking a short break as company founder John Wriglesworth gave a short speech. During the evening I met many people who have worked with Wriglesworth in the past and a few who hope to in the future. It was a great night and if you are planning a corporate function and would like to treat your guests to something special get in touch to arrange some corporate magic to amaze them all. It has been cold and snowy for the last week or two as I'm sure you're well aware. Although it would be tempting to stay in the warm the magic must go on so I've been out in all weathers entertaining at parties and exhibiting at wedding fairs. After the very hectic December this month should be a bit more relaxing, but battling the elements has added some extra unplanned "excitement" to every journey.
With lots of people staying indoors their thoughts turn to plans for the coming year and, if you are organising a wedding, then now is the perfect time to get everything arranged. My diary for 2013 (and 2014) is filling up, especially for the most popular Summer dates, so if you would like some Mike Stoner magic to amaze your guests then get in touch soon! There are some classic routines in magic. You make something appear, change, disappear and then reappear in a totally different place. Often this will be done with playing cards, but when the card reappears how do you know it's the same one as earlier and not just one that looks like it? The answer is to get someone to sign the card so it is completely unique. Although these days, with worries about "identity theft", people often just write their name or draw something rather than use their actual signature, which is fine - the card has still been made into a unique object. So when it vanishes and then instantly reappears in a completely impossible place it's a great bit of magic. Many people are a bit concerned though when asked to write on one of my playing cards. They say "...but if I sign the card won't that ruin the deck?" to which I usually say "Don't worry, I've got a few spares at home..."
As 2013 gets started it's the time of year for lots of wedding fairs. If you are planning a wedding then visiting a fair is a great way to see what's on offer, chat with suppliers and sample their wares. For myself it means showing people some magic and mind-reading so they know exactly what their guests will see if they book me to entertain at their wedding.
The first fair of 2013 was at Cantley House Hotel in Wokingham. It's a great venue that I've performed at many times and it was lovely to be back there. My stand was in the marquee rather than the main house and I thought this might be a bit cold, but a huge (and rather noisy!) heater meant that it was actually very cosy. I had a very enjoyable day talking to people, demonstrating the magic and taking bookings - thanks to Monique, Lianne and Kayleigh! The stand in the marquee next to mine belonged to Jamie and Anita from JMC Wedding Photography (http://www.jmc-weddings.com/). We had a good chat during the day and Jamie spent a lot of time trying to work out how I was doing the card tricks! You can see a picture of them below - if you are looking for a wedding photographer then you won't find anyone better - highly recommended. I'm appearing at many more wedding fairs over the next few weeks, details are in the blog post below., so if you're planning a wedding why not come along and say hello. Mike will be appearing at these wedding fairs, come along for a chat and a demonstration of the magic!
6th January - Cantley House Hotel, Wokingham 13th January - Brooklands Hotel, Weybridge (follow signs to Mercedes-Benz World) 20th January - The Bay Tree Hotel, Burford 27th January - St Anne's Manor, Wokingham 2nd February - Silvermere Inn on the Lake, Cobham (note that this is a Saturday, not Sunday) 10th February - Penta Hotel, Reading 17th February - Bearwood College, Wokingham 24th February - Northcote House, Sunningdale 3rd March - Holiday Inn, Woking Well, it has been a very busy and exciting year. During 2012 I performed for thousands of people at 153 events. A few memorable highlights have been appearing on TV (Sky Atlantic's "Devil's Dinner Party" and Harry Hill's "TV Burp"), being filmed for the magician's "More iCandy" DVD, doing magic at Tower Bridge and The Savoy, meeting Jay Kay at luxury car show Salon Prive, hearing Lesley Garrett sing "Mike Stoner - Magician" at the Royal Albert Hall (the video is on YouTube) and being part of the wedding of so many happy couples. It was also a fantastic year of sport with the Summer Olympics being truly spectacular. And, of course, the world didn't end, which was good news!
Many thanks to everyone who has invited me to entertain at their wedding, party or event during 2012 and here's to a great 2013! I rounded the year off with several hours of magic at the Blue Mountain golf club in Binfield. They have had the great idea of putting on a New Year's Eve party that works for all the family and during the evening I met guests aged between a few months old and in their eighties! The building was packed with people and there was entertainment everywhere including a DJ, live singer, quiz, excellent food and drink, face painters and myself doing the magic. Everyone was in a party mood and I spent the evening dashing around making sure that everyone got to see something amazing. What a great night - Happy New Year!
The last few weeks have been full of Christmas parties, but there was a change of pace on 30th December when I was doing magic at two weddings. Both of them were being held in the Farnham area that meant I could fit them both in during the day. At the first I was booked as by the mother of the bride as a surprise for the guests and at the second I was booked after the couple saw me at a local wedding fair. Some close-up magic is a great addition to your wedding day and it is always a pleasure to be part of the celebrations. There were a number of children at both weddings so I brought out the balloon models alongside the magic and they went down really well with everyone.
If you're planning a wedding in 2013 or 2014 and would like to amaze and delight your guests then get in touch to book some wedding magic! |
