Last week I spent a couple of hours entertaining at Maxims Casino in Reading. The main focus was on mind-reading and there was a lot of interest in how you can use body language to tell when people are telling the truth or lying, especially useful to the poker players. I use a mixture of influencing skills and reading techniques to predict someone's actions - letting them make an apparently free choice and then showing that it had been known in advance. At one table we even did a lottery prediction that got five out of the six numbers right! I also enjoyed meeting a table of guys and gals from Reading107FM. A couple of years ago I appeared on this radio station and hypnotised one of their DJs to stop smoking, which was an interesting point of discussion. The magic went down really well and I might be doing an interview for them in the near future - thanks to everyone for a great night.

I'm always happy to help out a good cause and so I spent yesterday bringing some magic to a special event for Save the Children. It was being held at the excellent Caffe Concerto in the HUGE Westfield Shopping Centre in Shepherd's Bush. If you haven't been here before then be warned, it is absolutely enormous and it is very easy to get lost when wandering around the hundreds of shops!
During the evening there was magic, music, drinks, canapes, a very successful charity auction and loads of fun, but most importantly thousands of pounds raised for charity. Many thanks to Nadia and Christine for inviting me along and congratulations to everyone who made this such a great evening for a very worthy cause. For the last couple of years I've been the resident magician at the Old Orleans restaurant in Reading. Every Tuesday evening and Saturday lunchtime you've been able to see me entertaining the customers while they're waiting for their food or drinking by the bar. Tuesdays focused on the psychological "Derren Brown" magic for adults and the Saturdays were more aimed at family groups and youngsters, with plenty of balloon animals! Old Orleans is a great party venue and the magic really fits in well. However the owners have decided that it is time for a refurbishment and some rebranding so the restaurant will be closed for the next few weeks and reopen under a new name in February 2012. Luckily this frees up my time to fit in all of the Christmas parties that are coming up!
I'll post information about the reopening nearer the time and look forward to performing more restaurant magic in the posh new surroundings. In the meantime huge thanks to all of the team at Old Orleans for being such fun to work with and I look forward to working with you again in a few weeks. |
