As we get closer to Christmas the party season really gets going. This is my busiest time of the year and, being one of the busiest magicians in the UK, that means very busy! Over the last few days I have done magic at a golf club in Brighton, a 16th birthday party, two weddings, two pubs, at Heathrow airport and on a boat trip along the Thames. Being a boat trip magician was a lot of fun. I had been booked to do three hours of magic for an international group of clients on a luxury paddle steamer called the "Elizabethan". You can find out all about it via this link - http://www.thamesluxurycharters.co.uk/elizabethan We set off from Westminster Pier, just opposite the London Eye, and cruised up and down the Thames, giving the foreign clients the chance to spot many of the famous London landmarks. I did an hour of "mix and mingle" magic while people had some drinks and then did a couple of hours of mind reading around the tables between the courses of the luxury meal that was served up for everyone.
One table was exclusively for French clients. Luckily my regular slot doing magic at Heathrow Airport means that I'm used to entertaining people whose first language isn't English and they loved the card tricks - ending with a round of applause and chorus of "Formidable!" Many thanks to Alex for arranging everything, it was a wonderful evening and everyone had a great time. If you're arranging a boat trip and would like to add a magician into the mix then get in touch!

On Saturday I spent the day in Camden. I'd been booked to entertain people at the opening of a new branch of the estate agency "Marsh and Parsons". I had been at their recent event in Richmond and it was lovely to be back again for the opening of their Camden branch on the Parkway. Alongside my magic there was free hot chocolate, free cupcakes, free massages, free balloons, free face-painting, free caricatures and even a friendly dog!
Camden is a very lively area and we soon became the centre of attention. Lots of people came to see what was going on and we were even visited by TV star/comedian Julian Clary (see below) It was a great day and a pleasure to be part of proceedings. Everyone loves to see some magic! Most of my magic is done at weddings, parties and corporate events. However I also have a number of regular slots at restaurants, pubs and bars across Berkshire, Surrey and London. The main one is at Crown Rivers restaurant/bar inside Heathrow Terminal 5. It's on "airside" so I have staff access, meaning that I can go straight through the special staff security gate rather than queue up with all of the people flying out from the airport. It took quite a while to get the staff pass as you have to be extensively security checked, but once you've got it you can breeze in and out of the airport at will, which is great. Crown Rivers is close to some of the gates and is therefore always busy. Here's a typical scene... I'm there once or twice a month wandering around doing magic for everyone. It's the perfect way to get your holiday or work trip off to an amazing start.
I also perform regularly at a number of local pubs and bars across Berkshire and Surrey. I'm on the official supplier list for J.D.Wetherspoon and do a lot of magic for Greene King pubs, so landlords in those chains often book me to entertain their customers. It's a nice way to give them something extra alongside the food and drink. Performing as a magician in a pub or restaurant is very different to being at a party or wedding. You will meet a lot of family groups, romantic couples, business travellers, real ale fans and, of course, the pub regulars. You will also meet a few people who have had one too many to drink and , unsurprisingly, they are the easiest to fool with the magic! The regulars are always fun as they will see you each time you are in the pub and you therefore need new tricks to show them each time to keep things fresh. They will also be happy to set you a challenge. "Next time you're in here we want you to push a bottle of wine through the table" - so the following week I make sure to do just that! The benefit of having a magician in your pub is that word quickly gets around and people tell their friends to go along and see the amazing things that are happening - it's great for business. If you run a pub or restaurant and would like to treat your customers to something special get in touch! |
