One of my favourite wedding venues is Loseley Park on the edge of Guildford. I often exhibit at their wedding fairs and the staff there often suggest my magic to people booking parties and events in the Tithe Barn. However my most recent wedding at Loseley came about in a more unusual manner. My father was having coffee, spoke with one of the ladies in the coffee shop, heard that her daughter was getting married and suggested that they think about having a wedding magician. She liked the idea, got in touch and a few months later I was there entertaining all of the guests! There were a few children at the wedding and they were unlikely to be interested in the wedding speeches, so for 20 minutes I entertained them with magic and balloons in a side-room so the adults could have some peace and quiet for a while! We then went back into the main room of the Tithe Barn and I mingled with the adult guests doing a mixture of magic and mind-reading. It was a lovely wedding and the magic went down really well. Thank you to parents Angela and Sam and the happy couple Tarnya and James for a great afternoon!

On Thursday I was performing magic and mind-reading for special guests and celebrities at The Savoy as part of WellChild's "Helping Hands" dinner. This is one of Prince Harry's charities and although he couldn't be there he sent a personal video message. There was a champagne reception followed by a luxurious meal with musical entertainment from opera sensation David Webb and X-Factor winner turned multi-million selling singer Alexandra Burke. The event was hosted by TV's Gaby Roslin and other celebrities included Janet Ellis, Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster.
I got to do mind-reading for several of the celebs - they thought of a word and I had to work out what it was using telepathic powers. Penny Lancaster thought of "BEDROOM", Rod Stewart went for "SEX", Alexandra Burke chose "LOVE" and (somewhat worryingly) her partner thought of "PSYCHOPATH"! You never know what word someone will think of - which is what makes it all the more fun and all the more amazing when I can tell them exactly what that word is! A great night for a great cause. Over the weekend I was booked to do magic at two special birthday parties. One was in Sunningdale at the Sunningdale Lounge and the other was at the Cantley House Hotel in my home town of Wokingham. At both parties I was a surprise guest, which is a great idea and adds something really special into the mix. It makes the magic and mind reading all the more amazing when it just suddenly happens right in front of you with no advance warning!
This morning I received a lovely email from Sue about the magic... Hi Mike, Many, many thanks for your professional close-up magic performance, to myself and my husband and our 27 guests. Your magic was amazing, Mervyn and his Grandson are still trying to work out how you did the paper cup trick! Thank you for adjusting the timing of your visit to fit in with the hotel and the service of the meal, it was greatly appreciated. After your departure, several guests commented on how much they had enjoyed your entertainment and asked for your details, which I passed on. Thank you for making Mervyn's Birthday that extra bit special. He had no idea of the surprise and will remember this day in years to come. Kind regards Sue and Mervyn W. If you have a friend or relative with a special birthday coming up then why not hire a magician to make the event all the more special? Get in touch for more information and to check availability. As we move into March and the weather starts to improve (no more rain please!) the wedding season gets going. Having a magician at your wedding is the perfect way to add something fun, unusual and amazing into the day. I realise that a wedding magician is an "optional extra" but it works really well to fill those gaps when nothing else is going on. For example, during the wedding reception you will be kept busy by the photographer but for most of your guests, who will only be in a couple of group shots, there's not much to do apart from drink champagne and wait for the meal to start. Therefore this is the ideal time to have a magician to "mix and mingle" with your guests - breaking the ice, getting people talking and laughing and generally doing amazing things! It can turn this time into a real highlight of the day. It also helps the photographer capture more interesting pictures. Instead of lots of static shots showing your guests standing around they will be able to capture them smiling, laughing, looking amazed and reacting to the magic going on in front of them. See some examples below!
I already have 50 weddings booked in for 2014 so if you are making plans and would like to add a wedding magician into the mix then please get in touch soon and we can get everything arranged to amaze and astound your guests! |
