![]() I have been working as a full-time professional magician for a few years now, but never got around to joining The Magic Circle. I'm a member of the HCMS (Home Counties Magical Society) and Psycrets (the British Society of Mystery Entertainers) but whenever someone asks about magical organisations it is always The Magic Circle that comes up. So a little while ago I decided it was time to join and make my status as a professional magician official. However you can't just pay a fee and become a member, first you have to be nominated by two people who are already in the Circle. You then have an interview to make sure that you are a suitable candidate with the right level of knowledge and experience and then, most important of all, you have an examination during which you perform 10 minutes of magic to a panel of experts. This is quite nerve-wracking but important as it ensures only the very best magicians are accepted. My examination included a couple of my favourite card tricks, the sudden appearance of a thought-of object, some unusual mind-reading, a toy car that finds hidden things and a disappearing bottle of CocaCola. Yesterday I received the news that I had passed the examination and had therefore been accepted as a member of The Magic Circle! Many thanks to Gary and Gee for their nominations, David and Matt for helping with the interview/examination process and the judges for coming to their (very much appreciated) decision!
