Working as a Berkshire Magician most of my magical performances are within the Berkshire, Surrey and London areas. However once in a while I will travel much further for a special event and that is what happened on Monday. I had been asked to do some wedding reception magic for Anne and Michael in the fantastic Saigon restaurant in the middle of Felixstowe. That's a 300 mile round trip from my base in Wokingham, but Anne was very keen to have some magic at her wedding, rather than a band or disco, and I was happy to help out. The journey was "interesting" as Southern England was being battered by rain storms, hail and gales - but as I eventually reached Felixstowe the weather cleared and I was able to enjoy a walk along the seafront before heading to the restaurant. The food at Saigon is superb and they have received many well-deserved five-star reviews and it was my job to provide some magic in between the courses. The time flew by and all too soon it was time to leave and drive the long road back home. Anne thanked me for coming and as I turned to leave the whole restaurant applauded - which was a lovely moment. Many congratulations to Anne and Michael - all the best for your future together.

As a wedding magician I often appear at wedding fairs around Berkshire and Surrey. A few months ago I met Alex and Mel at one of these fairs and, having seen some of my magic, they decided that it would be the perfect addition to their big day. So on Saturday I drove to the Crowne Plaza in Reading to entertain at their wedding reception. The day was a mix of heavy rain showers and sunny spells, but luck was with the happy couple and the rain stopped at just the right time! After the speeches I spent a couple of hours mingling with the guests and showing a mixture of magic and mind-reading. It was a great time and I particularly enjoyed performing some special card magic for the bride's mother. There were also a couple of guests who were determined to work out how the magic was being done and they proceeded to follow me around and watch everything like a hawk, but I'm glad to say that the magic stayed an entertaining mystery! Congratulations to Alex and Mel - all the best for the future.
Most of the time I work as a wedding magician or restaurant magician, but when a large company wants to put on a special event they call on my skills as a corporate party magician. Last night it was the turn of HP (Hewlett Packard) who were holding their annual HP Intern Ball at the fabulous Trunkwell Mansion House. There was food and drink galore, casino tables, a comedian and, of course, lots of magic. Everyone was dressed to the nines and made me feel slightly scruffy! This was a group who really knew how to party so I turned the magic up a notch and made a real effort to wow them, especially with some Derren Brown-style mind-control. It was a great night and I was enjoying myself so much that I stayed for an extra 30 minutes making sure everyone got to see some of the magic. Many thanks to the organisers for asking me along and here's looking forward to the next one!
CAMP is the City Arts & Music Project in Central London (www.thecamplondon.com) and on Wednesday evening I headed along there to help out with one of their charity events. The venue has a really good vibe and is full of people with a great attitude to life and a willingness to help others less fortunate than themselves. Inbetween the speeches and slideshows I mingled with the guests performing magic and mind-reading as a bit of extra entertainment during the evening. The following day I received some lovely comments from one of the organisers, which made me delighted to have helped these good causes:
"Mike! Everyone was raving about your magic and mindreading last night at the event! Thanks so much for coming out last night. You helped make the night a huge success. I'm sure the good mood you put people in contributed to raising over £6000! Thanks again!" On Saturday I had the pleasure of performing magic at the wedding of Ross and Emma. The reception was held at Cantley Lodge, just on the edge of Wokingham making this a very local appearance for me. Ross and Emma had seen me at a wedding fair a few months ago and decided that a bit of magic would be a good form of entertainment for their guests - and they were right! With guests ranging in age from under one to over eighty years old there was plenty of variety and a mixture of traditional card magic, psychological mind-reading effects and a few balloon animals seemed to hit the spot. I got the chance to chat with Ross and Emma for a few minutes which is always a bonus, often the bride and groom are too busy to see any of the magic - many congratulations and all the best for the future!
